Facebook Launches “Video Reverse” Playback Option

MENLO PARK, CA – Facebook announced a new feature called “Video Reverse” today. This tool lets people play videos backwards directly in their feed. Facebook users can now easily rewind clips they see while scrolling.
The feature works simply. People tap a new button shaped like a backwards arrow. Tapping this button makes the video play in reverse. Users control the speed. They can watch the video backwards slowly or quickly. This happens instantly without leaving the main feed.
Facebook built Video Reverse because people asked for better control. Users wanted an easy way to catch missed moments. They also wanted to see actions again clearly. Video Reverse solves this problem. It gives people instant replay power. They don’t need to drag a progress bar clumsily. They tap once and see the last few seconds again.
The feature is rolling out globally now. It is available on the Facebook app for phones. Android and iPhone users will get it first. The desktop website version will follow later. Everyone should have access within the next few weeks. Video Reverse works on most videos shared publicly or by friends. Some very old video formats might not support it yet.

Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram and Facebook, commented on the launch. “People watch tons of video daily. They told us replaying parts was hard. Video Reverse makes it simple. Tap once, see it again backwards. It’s about giving control back to the viewer.” The development team focused on speed and simplicity. They tested many designs with real users. The final one-button tap was the clear favorite. Facebook expects this feature to be popular for sports highlights, cooking demos, and funny moments.
